Hello, I’m Sayoko.

I’ve dedicated my craft and career to multisensory worldbuilding and storytelling in the collaborative arts. This journey began when I moved from Tokyo, Japan to Ohio, the U.S.A. as a teenager without knowing any English. Two pivotal discoveries that continue to shape my creative approach emerged from this experience: first, a fascination with verbal and nonverbal communication, and second, the power of symphonic collaboration, which I experienced while playing violin in orchestras to connect with peers beyond language.

My undergraduate studies in Architecture at the University of Cincinnati solidified my design principle that “an environment is worth a million words.” I launched my career in New York’s advertising industry as an experiential art director and designer.

In 2019, I became independent and founded SAYOKO OSADA STUDIO, offering full-service creative direction and production design.

As one of the few Asian female stage designers and part of the 0.1% of female founders in U.S. live entertainment, I am committed to pushing creative boundaries and amplifying diverse perspectives in the industry.
